Demulcent Herbs

Definition

Demulcent herbs are those herbs which contain mucilage. Usually these herbs are used to cure Dry Cough, Sore Throat, Digestive Ulcers. These herbs may be used internally as well as externally. When these herbs are used externally, we call them Emollient. Demulcent herbs soothe the hot and irritated tissues.

Effect of Demulcent on Body :
These herbs effect the Mucous Membranes of the Body. They relieve irritation of the mucous membranes by forming a protective film.

Single Herbs

Ionidium Suffruticosum as Demulcent

Prepare a decoction with leaves and stalks of Ionidium Suffruticosum plant. Drink 30 ml of it twice a day.

Asparagus Racemosus as Demulcent

Extract the juice of fresh Asparagus Racemosus roots with equal amount of Honey. Consume one teaspoon of it
