Laxative Herbs

Definition

Laxative herb is a herb that promotes the evacuation of the bowels. These herbs act as stool softener. They are used to cure Constipation.

Effect of an Laxative on Body or Organ :
These herbs effect the peristalsis movement of the Intestine. It helps in stool motility or movement.

How does an Laxative work :
These herbs may stimulate the Intestinal cells. Then it may increase bowel movement. Few herbs may increase the bulk of waste in the Intestine. The waste may retain water to make it bulky.

Excess of Laxative herbs may cause :
Diarrhea
Vomiting
Dizziness
Stomach Discomfort

Materia Medica for Laxative

Single Herbs

Psyllium Seed Husk for Constipation

Take 2 teaspoons of Psyllium Seed Husk in a cup. Add a little milk and a little sugar. Mix well. Eat it. Follow it with one glass of hot milk. Consume it at night just before going to bed. Repeat for 7 days or till evacuation becomes regular.

Fig ( Anjeer ) as Laxative

Take 3 Figs ( Anjeer ) daily.

Euphorbia Hirta as Laxative

Include leaves of Euphorbia Hirta in your meal in the form of chutney.

Guava ( Amrood ) as Laxative

Consume 2 Guavas daily.

Epsom Salt for Constipation

Prepare a solution by adding 4 g Epsom Salt in a cup of lukewarm water. Drink it once a day.

Rhubarb ( Amla Vetasa ) as a Laxative

Soak the rootstock in cold water for a day. Take One tablespoon twice a day.

Operculina Turpethum as Laxative

Take 1 g bark powder of Operculina Turpethum once a day. Use it for 1 week.

Terminalia Chebula ( Harad ) for Constipation

Consume 1 fruit of Terminalia Chebula ( Harad ) per day with Salt

Asteracantha Longifolia for Constipation

Take few leaves of Asteracantha Longifolia. Boil them with water. Take 25 ml of the decoction twice a day.

Bael ( Villi ) for Constipation

Bael ( Villi ) fruit is laxative in nature. It helps to throw out toxins from the intestines. Because of this property Bael ( Villi ) is used to treat Constipation. Take the pulp of ripe Beel fruit. Remove seeds from it. Eat it.
OR : Make a leave decoction of Bael. Have a cup of it in the morning.
Note : You may add Black Pepper and Salt to taste.

For Children : Squeeze the juice of fresh Bael ( Villi ) leaves. Add little sugar in one teaspoon of juice. Give it to the children twice a day. Problem will be cured effectively.

Bauhinia Purpurea as Laxative

Prepare a flower decoction of Bauhinia Purpurea. Drink 5 ml thrice a day.

Chayote as Laxative

Consume fruit of Chayote in cooked form.

Chicory ( Kasni ) for Constipation

Take half teaspoon of dried Chicory ( Kasni ) in a cup and pour over boiling water. Steep for 8-10 minutes. Strain and drink in the morning.
Or
Take 20 g dried roots and crush it. Boil that crushed root into water for 10 minutes. Drink in the morning before breakfast.

Herbal Treatment For Constipation 22

Grind equal quantities of Beleric Myrobalan, ( Behada in Hindi), Embolic Myrobalan, ( Amla in Hindi ) and Terminalia Chebula ( Harad in Hindi ).
Take one tablespoon before retiring at night.
It cures Anemia, Constipation, Indigestion and Spermatorrhea.
It has an Antibiotic, Laxative, Astringent, Cooling and Purgative effect on the body.
It acts as an Appetizer.
It acts as a Brain Tonic.
It is beneficial for Eyes.
It promotes hair growth and makes hair shiny.
It does not have any side effects.
It is not habit forming.

Herbal Treatment For Laxative 1

Take 3 tablespoons each of Psyllium Husk, Chia seeds and Flax.
Soak overnight in a cup of Black Cherry juice.
Eat and drink in 3 portions throughout the next day.

Herbal Treatment For Gallstones 2

Mix 3 parts of Turmeric root ( Haldi in India ) with 2 parts of each Parsley root ( Ajmod in India ), Eupatorium Purpureum, Common Marshmallow ( Khatami in India ), Licorice ( Mulethi in India ), Ginger ( Adrak in India ) and Dandelion ( Dudal in India ).
Make small tablets and take 2 tablets thrice a day.
It is good for both Kidney and Bladder stones.
Avoid during pregnancy.
